Community Involvement

Straight Outta Rescue Society
Kitsilano Animal Clinic is proud to partner with Straight Outta Rescue Society, a volunteer-run rescue and registered charity based here in Vancouver. Their work focuses on helping at-risk cats and dogs through foster care, medical support, and thoughtful matching with forever homes.
Together, we support efforts that go beyond individual animals, including trap-neuter-return programs and community-based rescue initiatives that help break the cycle of homelessness, disease, and overpopulation. It’s work rooted in compassion, practical action, and giving a voice to animals who need it most.

Canadian Animal Blood Bank
Kitsilano Animal Clinic is a proud donor clinic for the Canadian Animal Blood Bank, a national non-profit that has supplied blood products to veterinary hospitals across Canada since 1996. We have hosted two donor clinics so far.
Just like people, dogs sometimes need blood. A single donation can help save the lives of up to three other dogs recovering from surgery, trauma or illness. Donor dogs receive complimentary screening for blood-borne diseases and heartworm, free microchip identification, and one free blood product for every unit donated, should they ever need it themselves.
Your dog may be eligible to donate if they are:
- Healthy and even-tempered
- 25 kg (55 lbs) or heavier
- Between 1 and 8 years of age, or 18 months for giant breeds
- Up to date on vaccinations or titres
- Receiving heartworm and tick preventative medication (strongly recommended)
If that sounds like your dog, please get in touch with us. We can walk you through the donor registration form and let you know when our next donor clinic is scheduled.
